Laminating Pouches and Laminating Film

There are hundreds of different laminating supplies to choose from and if you've never bought a laminator before it can be very daunting. Here we try to explain the different types of products available to help you make a more informed decision.

Hot Lamination Pouches

Hot Pouch Laminators are the most popular type of laminator used to encapsulate a document within a pouch which has 2 connected sides in which the item to be laminated is positioned. The pouch is coated with a heat-activated film, which melts when passed through the heated rollers and is then bonded under pressure, removing all of the bubbles and creating a tight seal. Pouches are available from about 4 wide for badge lamination to A1 size for posters and signs, and 150micron to 500micton thick in.

Cold Lamination Pouches

Cold Pouch Lamination are the best option when laminating heat-sensitive documents, which would include faxes, photos, and documents printed with an ink jet printer. Cold lamination can be safer and provide better UV protection than hot lamination. Cold laminating pouches use an adhesive that is activated with pressure, are easy and safe to use because they do not get hot and may not use electricity.

Cold Roll Laminating Film

Cold Roll Laminators use a plastic film which is coated with an adhesive and glossy backing which when removed, the adhesive is exposed, which then sticks directly onto the item which needs to be laminated. This method, uses less expensive equipment, is also suitable for those items which would be damaged by heat. The Cold Film Rolls can be supplied in a variety of thicknesses, lengths, finishes and internal core sizes.

Hot Single Sided Roll Laminating Film

Hot Roll Single Sided Laminators use one layer of film loaded onto a Roll. The Wide Format Hot Roll Laminator uses heated rollers to melt the glue extruded onto lamination film roll, and the paper/card that is to be protected is bonded on one side under pressure by the rollers. Heated Roll Laminators can vary in size so choose the appropriate width to suit your machine. Also the films can be supplied in a variety of thicknesses, lengths, finishes and internal core sizes. Please note that the glue is normally solid at room temperature and should be stored accordingly.

Hot Double Sided Roll Laminating Film

Hot Roll Double Sided Laminators use two layers of Roll Film which completely encapsulate the item being laminated. Hot Roll Laminators use 2 heated rollers to melt the glue which is extruded onto lamination film rolls, and the paper/card that is to be protected is then bonded under pressure by the rollers. Heated Roll Laminators can vary in size so choose the appropriate width to suit your machine. Also the films can be supplied in a variety of thicknesses, lengths, finishes and internal core sizes. Please note that the glue is normally solid at room temperature and should be stored accordingly.
